Our group of friends couldn’t believe the incredible Colleen Dreskell, my youthful partner in crime, could own and wear wigs. Her iconic hair and fashion flowed in sync with her indomitable look. But surprise surprise. There’s no doubt “Lady Fabulous” remains known because of her impeccable looks. Not many in town can tell she utilizes well-crafted African American wigs. They work well.

When we were young girls in the hill country, we used to stole the spotlights to every dance. A few years went by before her alopecia reared its head and she became nearly bald. I did hint at a few synthetic wigs. Even so she just shaved her head. The incredible woman somewhat obnoxiously showcased her shaved head.

At her boyfriend Jacob’s homecoming, we ate nuts until some kluts purposefully launched the ball (or whatever they play with) at us. Such a sport, she went to grab it when her hand-knitted “head sweater” (her idea) fell off, revealing her thinning hair. Like nothing happened, she lobbed it playfully to her man. That’s so her!

But, who can be invincible at all times? Not too long after she invited me over for a “Gilmore Girls” binge, where she looked me in the eye and informed me that she opts to do without hair out of bitterness. She missed her natural hair too much to become dependent on human hair wigs, secretly acknowledging she would wear them. At that disclosure, the punk grew embarrassed and demanded that I shouldn’t concern myself with it. She really needed help.

I wanted to help so bad. The next morning, I IM’d with her about taking care of this wig problem. Finally we both came to the obvious conclusion: we were going wig shopping! One for me and one for her.

We had a ball wig shopping, floored by the options. I couldn’t believe that women’s medical wigs could be so natural for a lot of people. These <a href="http://www.womenswigsolutions.com/lace-front-wigs/"lace wigs were exactly what she needed. As for me, arranged a completely new set of outfits to go with my synthetic wig. Out of solidarity, you know. Last Christmas she gave me a photo of us in our wigs and thanked me for her dignified synthetic wig, and said it brought about a feminine mystique that she’d forgotten. It’s heartwarming to watch her float about as light as a feather. Can’t wait to see that infamous “toss ‘n turn” again.

This post is from our recent trip to Waikiki. Ive got to say, if you ever have the opportunity to make it to Waikiki, you should absolutely take the opportunity. It has to be one of the most pretty places in the US. What a blessing it is to have such a wonderful location in our country.

The hospitality there is magnificent. We took a surf lesson, rode a canoe, caught a few hula demonstrates and even had a chance to try out some real Hawaiian food at a luau. They say ono out there, it means delicious. The Kalua Pig is to die for and be sure to stop by for a lava flow night cap at Dukes. Its a little spot on Waikiki beach, great for an evening cocktail. One of the most memorable aspects was when we treated ourselves to a massage in Honolulu. It was stunning, super relaxing and well deserved after a hard years work.

Honolulu is rare. Don’t concentrate that you won’t do it all, because you can’t. Determine what is most important to you and concentrate on that. Take time to relax and savor just being there. Needless to say, we will be going back as soon as possible.

After years of terrorizing the countryside, hunting deer, poaching livestock, killing game, Tiger grew long in the tooth. Finally, he knew it was time to retire. So he packed his bag and ambled into town to the Three Little Pigs Retirement Home Inc. He rang the bell, and the first little pig appeared on the landing above. “What do you want?” asked the little pig.

“I come here to retire,” Tiger replied.

“Ooooh. I don’t think so,” the little pig declared. “You’re not like us. You’ve got big teeth. Very dangerous. We can’t let you in.”

So Tiger went to the dentist and had his teeth removed. The next day, he returned to the Three Little Pigs Retirement Home Inc. “What do you want?” asked the second little pig.

“I have no more teeth. I come here to retire,” Tiger replied once more.

“Ooooh. No, no, no. That just won’t do,” the little pig exclaimed. “You’re different. You have sharp claws. You scare us. We can’t let you in.”

So Tiger went to the manicurist and had his claws removed. The next day, he returned to the Three Little Pigs Retirement Home Inc. “What do you want?” demanded the third little pig.

“I have no more claws. I come here to retire,” Tiger repeated.

“Ooooh. Let me see,” the little pig muttered as he disappeared from sight. Tiger heard much whispering and commotion behind the big wooden doors. “Okay, come in,” said the little pig.

Tiger strolled through the doors, and there stood the three little pigs, grinning ear to ear. Suddenly they jumped on Tiger. Squealing with delight, they beat him up and sent him packing. No teeth. No claws. Yippeeee! Finally they got even with Tiger for terrorizing the animals.

Tiger should have known better. He should have accepted who he is and not try to conform to someone else’s image of him. What tiger in his right mind lets a pig paint his portrait?

So, who paints your portrait?
