Various studies and researches done over the years have confirmed the claim that low fat milk can decrease a person’s risk of developing heart disease.
In 2005, researchers found that a daily low fat milk consumption of 7 ounces was associated with a 10% drop in heart attack risk.
Recently, a study showed that adults who consumed at least one serving of low fat milk on a daily basis reduced their chances of suffering from poor kidney function leading to heart disease by 37%. More than 5,000 adults between the ages of 45 and 84 had their eating patterns tracked, and their albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR), measured. An ACR measurement that is too low can mean possible poor kidney function and a higher risk for heart disease. Those who consumed a good amount of low fat milk and milk products exhibited an ACR level that indicated healthy kidney function.
Although anti-milk groups have often said that dairy consumption is a major cause of heart attacks, clinical evidence has shown otherwise. Milk contains essential nutrients like Vitamin D, magnesium, and calcium, all of which are considered as beneficial contributors for a healthy heart. Vitamin B12 and riboflavin, both found in milk, are essential for good cardiovascular health. Low fat milk has very little or no solid fat so it is the healthier milk choice.
For a healthier kidney and a stronger heart, switch to low fat milk now. Better yet, start consuming a low fat diet!
